A wildfire near Bastrop State Park, known as the Hudson Fire, is currently spreading due to high winds, according to officials from the Texas A&M Forest Service. The fire has already burned 400 acres as of Monday morning and is only 20% contained.

Fortunately, the high humidity on Sunday night helped reduce the fire activity to some extent. Firefighters are currently focusing on securing a bulldozer line along the perimeter of the fire to prevent further spread.

Evacuations and road closures are still in effect along Park Road 1C between Alum Creek and Cottletown Road. Additionally, evacuations are in place from State Highway 71 at Alum Creek north to Goiter Trace. Displaced residents can seek shelter at the Smithville Recreation Center on Royston St.

For pet owners, Bastrop County Animal Services has set up a temporary shelter at Mayfest Park in Bastrop for dogs, cats, and other small animals. The Bastrop County Agrilife Extension is also providing assistance for livestock at the park. If you have any questions, you can contact them at 512-549-5160.

To combat the fire, additional firefighting aircraft have been requested and have already arrived on the scene. A video from the Forest Service shows these aircraft dropping water on the fire as smoke billows.
