When you move, you often discover older things that have already been forgotten. But in the case of the DFB, the mixture is different again. When clearing out the old headquarters in Frankfurt to move to the new 150 million euro campus, two previously unknown rooms were “discovered”.
Soccer, Formula 1, tennis and more in a sports package
These contained four safes. According to “Bild” information, even the four former DFB presidents Theo Zwanziger, Wolfgang Niersbach, Reinhard Grindel and Fritz Keller knew nothing about the vaults.
One of the rooms is on the ground floor, the other next to the in-house pub. According to information from “Bild”, two of the four safes have already been opened. Among other things, parts of the estate of the ex-national coach Sepp Herberger, who led Germany to the World Cup title in 1954 (“Miracle of Bern”), were found in the two safes. In addition, ticket blanks for international matches came to light.
For the other two safes, the DFB is now looking for professional “tank crackers” via tender to obtain the contents.
