Six people were killed and more than 60 were hurt when a suspect allegedly crashed into the holiday parade
According to reports, one of the nine children still in hospital after last Sunday’s tragedy at the Christmas parade in Wisconsin was released on Saturday.
The name of the child was withheld.
FOX 6 Milwaukee reported that eight children were still in hospital with conditions ranging from severe to good.
Darrell E. Brooks (HTMO0_ 39) allegedly drove into the Waukesha parade, in a suburb near Milwaukee, killing five people and injuring over 60. The sixth victim was Jackson Sparks, an 8-year old boy.
He was charged with five counts for first-degree intentional murder and will likely be charged with a sixth charge for Sparks’s death.
According to WISN TV in Milwaukee, 16 children were initially admitted to Wisconsin Children’s Hospital between the ages of 3 and 16.
“We have older people who have died and we’ve got some kids in the ICU,” Ryan Kohnke said to Fox News Digital Tuesday. Ryan Kohnke is the uncle of Jessalyn Turres, Jessalyn’s 11-year-old victim. Jessalyn was hurt while dancing in the parade. “There is no more vulnerable group that this person could attack than the ones in this parade.”
According to FOX6, Torres was still in the hospital on Saturday
Kohnke stated that she told them to glue her back together. It’s a testimony to her sassiness and her attitude. She is an adventurous child. It was a big deal for her to make a joke and enjoy that kind of human moment. We both laughed at the joke, my sister and me. That was what we thought was funny.
Jessalyn sustained multiple injuries including a fractured pelvis and fractured skull. She also suffered detached kidney damage, contusions to her lungs, lacerations on her liver, and a fractured pelvis.
This is something that no mother should have to go through. Amber Kohnke, Torres’ mother, said that it was a very difficult ordeal. She said that the hardest part was not being able to be there for everyone. Jessalyn was also unable to be with her family because she was in such a bad condition.
