With Novak Djokovic, the 135th All England Open found a well-deserved winner and yet Wimbledon 2022 went down in history – and ingloriously so. No Church Road tournament has ever been more absurd than the current edition.

Djokovic’s 2,000 points expire: Old master Novak Djokovic (35) beats “Bad Boy” Nick Kyrgios in a high-class and emotional Wimbledon final on Sunday 4: 6, 6: 3, 6: 4, 7: 6 – and yet the Serb is the big loser on Monday. In the new ATP world rankings, the now 21-time Grand Slam winner falls from 3rd to 7th place because he cannot defend the 2,000 points of his victory last year.

Short, clear, compact

Great Britain Vs. ATP and WTA: The British government had ordered not to allow athletes from Russia or Belarus because of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. As a countermeasure, the ATP and WTA decided not to award points at Wimbledon this year. This leads to the absurd situation that Djokovic loses four places in the ranking – and, for example, Stefanos Tsitsipas, who was eliminated in the third round, moves up from five to four.

Tennis is the loser: “Tennisnet” speaks in a comment of a “Pyrrhic victory” for the Serbs and a “bitter aftertaste” that not only affects Djokovic, but all tennis, which has lost in these two weeks. In the end Elena Rybakina, who was born in Russia and lives in Moscow, also won the women’s competition. She has competed for Kazakhstan since 2018.
