A banker from London received a bonus of 400,000 euros from his employer. Because this amount was too small for him, the man completely freaked out in front of his superiors. A year later he was released. Now he has lost his lawsuit in court.
Because a banker from London received too “low” a bonus of 400,000 euros, he sued his superiors and lost in court. Italy’s Fabio Filippi found his “small” bonus “unacceptable”. This was reported by the British newspaper “Mirror”.
The bonus was EUR 140,000 less than in the previous year. Filippi’s bosses justified the decision by saying that his performance in the company had declined and that most of the bonuses were lower. When his superiors told him this, Filippi is said to have yelled at them and accused them of being cut because he was not French but Italian.
Filippi has been with the French bank BNP Paribas since 1999, first in London and then in Milan. The following year, the banker’s performance is said to have continued to decline, which is why the bank fired him. The reason she gave was that Filippi was an “expensive resource that does not add value”. Filippi’s annual salary was largely based on the bonuses he brought in. While his base salary was €250,000, between 2009 and 2016 he made €3.87 million just from his bonuses.
When the bank terminated his job, Filippi sued his former employer for unfair dismissal and insufficient bonuses. Years later, he lost that lawsuit. The court in London saw it as proven that the banker’s work performance had actually fallen significantly over the years.
In court, Filippi did not accuse his bosses of racism, but that as an informant he had expressed concerns about allegedly “illegal” transactions at the bank and was therefore fired.
To ensure that no gas supplier has to file for bankruptcy due to increased purchase prices, all end customers are to pay a levy for a year and a half from October. Consumers are faced with significant price increases: up to 254 percent.
