Residents of Krivoy Rog Dnepropetrovsk region protested the imposition of the Russian language to the pupils of a local school. About it reports “Radio Freedom”.
According to the publication, the management of the institution decided to make it compulsory to study Russian language for students in grades 5-10. Eleventh-graders proposed to study Russian optional. PTA said that the opinion of the students and their parents were not taken into account. According to the representative of the Committee of the Victoria Mine, Russian language in the school decided to study as a second foreign language instead of German.
“Parents tell us that it will be better, will be easier. But not all parents want a written statement that I want German. Parents of eleventh grade when I learned that Russian is the course of written statement that we put the Ukrainian or English, because they put on UPE (External independent testing, the Russian analogue of the exam — approx. “Of the tape.ru”). The school management explained that the languages of the educational process identified Russian and Ukrainian, with a gradual transition to Ukrainian. At the same time on the website of the institution published two curriculum project: a study of two foreign languages and study one foreign and Russian. Most parents eventually favoured the second option.
Earlier, in April, Verkhovna Rada Deputy from the party “servant of the people” Evgeny Shevchenko said it was impossible to eradicate the Russian language in Ukraine. He urged to change the law on languages, since, as drafted, it will lead to bad consequences.
In January, the Ukrainian MPs adopted the law on secondary education that terminates in the country of Russian-speaking schools. Students from Russian-speaking families in the fifth grade should learn the Ukrainian language at least 80 percent of the items. Training program in Russian are canceled.
