A shark attacks two Austrian and Romanian tourists in Sahl Hasheesh, Egypt, fatally injuring them. Emergency services are now looking for the animal. Now there are first rumors about his whereabouts.
Within a few hours, a shark fatally attacked two women in the Egyptian seaside resort of Sahl Hasheesh last Friday. Both an Austrian and a Romanian succumbed to their serious injuries shortly after the attack. As a result of the tragic incidents, the Egyptian authorities closed the affected sections of the beach.
Today, Tuesday, they lifted the blockage again – but without having caught the shark. Nothing is officially known about the whereabouts of the animal, which experts say is an oceanic whitetip shark. However, rumors are now circulating that the sea dweller, whose conspecifics can weigh up to 92 kilograms, may not be far away.
“The shark is probably still in the bay and they don’t catch it,” says a woman from Munich, who is currently on holiday in Sahl Hasheesh near Hurghada, to the “Bild”. With divers and submarines, the Egyptians would keep an eye out for the shark. However, the search has so far been unsuccessful, which the woman believes is also due to the inadequate equipment of the emergency services. “And we don’t understand that they don’t have good technology,” she says. The lifeguards on site were also criticized by vacationers who witnessed the shark attacks.
