On September 18, with the support of the city Sports Department, the main race of the country, the Moscow Marathon, will be held. Everyone will be able to run through the center of the capital, challenge themselves, break personal records, and support the participants.
Runners can traditionally choose one of two distances — 42.2 kilometers or 10 kilometers. There will also be a corporate relay race. The route runs through the most beautiful streets of the city, athletes are waiting for views of famous sights and the attention of fans.
Also, the Moscow Marathon will host the final of the All-Russian Spartakiad in summer sports among the strongest runners at the marathon distance.
All participants of the race will start at the same time at 09:00. The route of the marathon distance will begin at the Luzhniki Small Sports Arena, and the 10—kilometer race will begin on Luzhniki Street near the Alley of Fame. Athletes will run along the embankments of the Moskva River, the Garden and Boulevard Ring, the Crimean Bridge, Tverskaya Street, Theater Passage, along the walls of the Kremlin and finish at the Festival Square.
The leaders are waiting for medals, cups, gifts from partners and monetary rewards. The winners of the marathon distance will be six men and women who showed the highest result. The participants who took places from first to third in the absolute championship among men and women at a 10-kilometer distance will also receive awards. The leaders of the corporate relay race will be the three teams that finished first. In addition, the participants of the race will be awarded in age categories, and together with the winners of the Moscow Marathon, the winners of the All-Russian Spartakiad, who took places from first to third among men and women, will receive awards.
All participants who meet the six-hour limit will be awarded a commemorative medal created on the basis of the architectural symbols of the city encountered on the route. Over the years, the medals depicted the towers of the Moscow City business center, the Crimean Bridge, the Zaryadye Park, the high-rise on the Kotelnicheskaya Embankment and the building of the Polytechnic Museum. The design of this year’s award will traditionally be a surprise for the participants.
Not only adult athletes, but also young athletes can join the marathon. For them, the team of the running community will hold a children’s race. On September 17, children under the age of nine will compete at the 400-meter distance, and participants aged 10 to 13 years — at a distance of 800 meters. Medals in the children’s race will be awarded to everyone who crossed the finish line, and for the first three boys and girls in the age groups of 10-11 and 12-13 years, a solemn awarding ceremony with cups and gifts will be held.
During the marathon, traffic will be restricted on some central streets of the capital. Sections along the marathon route will be closed from 07:00 ��about 17:00.
At this time, it will be impossible to drive along the Luzhnetskaya, Savvinskaya, Frunzenskaya and Kotelnicheskaya embankments. Sections of Tverskaya, Mokhovaya and Krasnaya Presnya streets, Strastnoy, Pokrovsky and Chistoprudny Boulevards, Lubyanskaya, New and Old Squares will also be blocked.
From 00:01 on September 18 until the end of the event, it will be impossible to park in the blocked areas.
