In 2015, Daniela Katzenberger announced her pregnancy with daughter Sophia. As a mom-to-be, she couldn’t have been happier. In her Podimo podcast “Cat and Cordalis” with husband Lucas Cordalis, she now reveals that it almost meant her career – and raises serious allegations against her former TV partner.
Shortly after she shared the happy news about her baby happiness with the public, Daniela Katzenberger suffered a severe setback. “Your entire professional house of cards is wrecked when you’re pregnant,” recalls the cat. Because in the fourth month of pregnancy, both the TV station “VOX”, her former production company “99pro media” and her management terminated the cooperation in one fell swoop. It was a huge shock for the “Goodbye Germany” star: “I thought my life was over.” Daniela Katzenberger was already plagued by many fears during pregnancy, and the threatened career end made her even more difficult : “I should have been completely happy, but I was very desperate.” The whole thing would eventually even have led to a real burnout.
At the time, Daniela Katzenberger was very disappointed with the harsh reaction. “I thought they’d be just as happy for me. Over the years they have become friends somewhere,” says the 35-year-old. In the end, however, professional interests seemed to be more important, which she found out “very painfully”. At that time, she would have been given to understand “through the flower”: “Either you are single, earn money and have a job or you are pregnant and unemployed.” There was simply no longer any interest in a “Katzenberger as a mother”.
When asked by BUNTE.de, a VOX spokeswoman explained Katzenberger’s allegations, referring to a statement made in 2015: “Daniela Katzenberger has been very successful on VOX since 2010 with her docu-soap ‘Daniela Katzenberger – natur blond’. Unfortunately, the two follow-up projects ‘Daniela’s Wedding Secret’ and ‘Daniela Katzenberger – Naturally Beautiful’ did not meet our quota expectations. We then talked to Daniela and her producer about other format ideas, including possible support for her pregnancy. At the time, however, we came to the conclusion that a personality documentary with Daniela Katzenberger did not fit in with VOX’s current programming strategy.
In addition, they “separated on good terms” and were “very happy” that Daniela Katzenberger had found a new home at the sister station RTLZWEI. And further: “Since then, she has also been seen on VOX, for example as the presenter of the special for the 15th birthday of ‘Goodbye Germany’ last year. We reject the fact that her pregnancy was the reason for the end of the collaboration.” The TV production company “99pro media” has not yet commented on the allegations on request.
After all, it was husband Lucas Cordalis who knew how to prevent his wife’s career from ending. Because by chance he was able to land a new TV deal. As part of preliminary talks about taking part in ” Promi Big Brother “, which ultimately didn’t materialize, he told the chief reality producer Rainer Laux of the Cologne production company “Endemol” about his impending fatherhood. He immediately had the right feeling that the audience could be very interested in Daniela Katzenberger’s pregnancy. The very next day he sent an editor to the two of them. Finally, the successful docu-soap “Daniela Katzenberger – Mit Lucas im Babyglück” was produced in cooperation with the broadcaster “RTL II”. “The topic has developed so sensationally,” reports Lucas Cordalis happily. Despite the initial setback, this would have opened up “completely new doors”.
To date, interest in family life with daughter Sophia is great. The documentary series “Daniela Katzenberger – Familienglück auf Mallorca” is currently in its sixth season. After being kicked out, the two of them no longer want to know anything about their TV partner at the time. In any case, Lucas Cordalis is proud that his Daniela didn’t let it get him down: “Now you can look back and say ‘f*ck you all!'”
