President of the United States Donald trump is threatening to use his veto power against the bill on the defense budget for the 2021 fiscal year. This document, in particular, provides introduction of sanctions against the projects “Nord stream-2” and “Turkish stream”.

on Tuesday, the Democrats controlled the House of representatives by a majority of votes (295 for, 125 against) approved a defence budget of $740 billion in the 2021 fiscal year. Under this bill the congressmen voted for amendments on new sanctions against the gas pipeline “Nord stream-2” and “Turkish stream”. According to these amendments, the United States imposes punitive measures against foreign persons who contribute significantly to the sale, lease, or provide ships for the styling used in the construction of gas pipes.

“Russia is trying to develop the gas pipeline “Nord stream-2″, to establish excessive control over our European allies and their energy supplies. We must stop this strategy of hostile influence Putin,” he wrote after the House vote via Twitter, Republican Congressman Steve Womack.

the amendments voted in the House of representatives are “softer” than prepared by the Senate version of sanctions against the “Nord stream-2”. According to the “hard” version, the restrictive measures should be extended also to those providing port services, insurance or legal assistance in the construction of pipelines. That would leave the pipelines without the need for introducing them to the certificate.

For further passage of the bill on the defense budget is needed to obtain “good” in the Senate – otherwise, you will have to re-negotiate the bill with the House of representatives.

meanwhile, the President of trump promised to veto the law on budget allocations for the defense. However, sanctions against the “Nord stream-2” the threat has no direct relationship.

the fact that the bill requires the renaming of some military facilities named after generals of the Confederacy during the Civil war in the U.S. fought on the side of the slave South.

this, in particular, areas such as Fort Bragg in North Carolina (the name in honor of Braxton Bragg, which came after the outbreak of Civil war in the army of confederal the rank of major General), Fort hood, Texas (keeps the memory of John Belle hood, who led during the Civil war who fought for the Confederacy connection, known as the Texas brigade of Hood’s or Boys Khuda) and Fort Benning in Georgia (Brigadier General Henry Benning, served on the side of the southerners during the Civil war).

“I don’t care what they say in the military. I’ll do have to make a decision, said trump in an interview with Fox News that aired Sunday. Fort Bragg – more business. We won two world wars, no one even knows of General Bragg. We won two world wars. Go to the community where is Fort Bragg in the great state, I love this state, go into the community and tell me how you like the idea to rename Fort Bragg, and what will we call him? We name it in honor of the Ala of the Reverend Sharpton? (Alfred Sharpton is a fighter for the rights of blacks, a Baptist Minister, colleague of Barack Obama – “MK”)”.

However, as suggested by Fox News, the President is unlikely to carry out his threat about the veto against the bill, which envisages among other things, and higher military salaries.

Lawmakers of both parties expressed skepticism about whether trump to cope with such a threat, given that NDAA provides for wage increases for members of the armed forces.

“Let me see, – was stated in the beginning of this month, the leader of the democratic minority in the Senate, Chuck Schumer – that President trump will not veto the bill, which provides for wage increases for our troops and critical support for our military.”

Indeed, during his Sunday’s interview with trump promised that soldiers “will receive a salary increase”.

Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman also believes that the President will sign the bill: “the President very clearly stated our position on this issue. And therefore, from the point of view of the Ministry, we are confident that the administration and Congress reach agreement. They understand the importance of the Law on budget allocations for national defense. We are confident that an agreement will be reached, and the bill is signed and done in time, so we had the budget for the armed forces”.
