“Our visitors rarely go past the enclosure white (polar) owl. Its inhabitants often sit proudly on the terraces and draw attention to their plumage. But their Chicks do not like white parents is a furry grey lumps with large yellow eyes. Three Chicks in the snowy owl hatched about a month ago. Now they are a little older and left the nest. Kids independently take food, unable to swallow the mouse if she will lie somewhere nearby. But the adult plumage Chicks will be available closer to winter and the floor can be determined only next year”, – said the press service.
As noted there, this is the first offspring for mother of Chicks – four year old female polar owls.
“a Male who is 10 years old, began to care for his companion, even in the winter. In the spring, when it was all dried up, the owls dug in the ground hole, and the female laid eggs. She never left the nest the whole time of incubation, and caring dad regularly fed and defended – the zoo staff were forced to go into an enclosure with thick jackets, to a worried father didn’t scratch them. So far, the keepers approach the bird cautiously. Owls have a spacious aviary complex shapes – there are terraces of different heights, so that owls could choose a comfortable place. The staff did not mow the grass in the enclosure, in order not to disturb the Chicks for the owl family even more protection from prying eyes and noise,” – said the press service.
