The world predicted a famine of biblical proportions

Executive Director of the world food programme (WFP) David Beazley predicted world famine biletskogo scale. He stated this on a virtual meeting of the Security Council, TASS reports.

According to him, humanity could face a serious food shortage in a few months because of a pandemic coronavirus. To avoid such developments, Beazley urged to take measures to ensure food security in the country.

“I want to emphasize that COVID-19 is not only a global threat to human health, but also a global humanitarian catastrophe. Millions of civilians living in the conflict zone, including women and children, may be on the verge of starvation” — he stressed.

At present, mass hunger in the world is not observed, however not enough food for 821 million. Another 265 million can face this humanitarian problem in 2020. When the worst scenario will be hungry in 30 countries, mainly those involved in military conflicts.

According to the latest data, worldwide more than 2.5 million infected with coronavirus, of which 171 thousand died, more than 659 thousand were cured. The largest number infected are in the US (788 thousand), Spain (204 thousand), Italy (181 thousand), France (156 thousand) and Germany (147 thousand).
