Russia should withdraw from the Middle East, says U.S. assistant Secretary of state David Schenker. According to him, Moscow is playing in the region “destructive role”.

“For 45 years it was the cornerstone of American policy to keep the Russians away from the Middle East. Now they’re playing a destructive role. And we, frankly, think they need to get out of there,” said the us official during a videoconference organized by the Middle East Institute in Washington.

shenker also called a mistake the decision of the former President Barack Obama “to welcome the arrival of the Russians in Syria,” believing that it “will delay the Russians in the swamps.”

Earlier, a similar criticism of the former head of the White house were President Donald trump.

According to assistant Secretary of state, the Russian success in Syria led to her decision to act in Libya, where a civil war continues in 2011. Moscow has repeatedly denied information on the involvement of the military conflict in Libya.
