Most of the decisions of the UN continues to enjoy considerable clout: this organization is not a panacea, but the alternatives have there is no peace, says Russia’s envoy to the UN, Vasily sebenza.
"I Have no doubt that most of UN resolutions and continues to enjoy considerable clout. No wonder the countries concerned achieve their adoption. A resolution of the Security Council have practical consequences, some of them entails use of sanctions or even the use of force. On UN decisions are based, the processes of settlement of many conflicts", – said Nebenzia in an interview with the newspaper "Izvestia" on the occasion of the 75th anniversary since the signing of the Charter of the United Nations.
He noted that in most cases undoubted role played by the General Assembly resolution, although they are Advisory in nature. Thus, according to the diplomat, in recent years has strengthened the trend of nominating a number of States politicized projects that cause division among UN member States, which undermined the authority of the General Assembly as a principal organ of the UN.
"it is Important to remember that the UN — in any case not a panacea for all ills. But the alternatives the world has no. The UN and its 75 years of existence proved that it can do a lot to make our world a better place", – said sebenza.
