The medic advised the UK to “prepare for the worst” this winter, and not to rely on the development of a vaccine against coronavirus, reports The Independent.
Sir John bell, Professor of medicine at Oxford University, told members of Parliament that the planning of measures against the pandemic was based “largely on assumptions,” and it would be better now to prepare for the cold months, not counting on a breakthrough scientists hunting for a vaccine.
Sir John called for increased investment in infrastructure, vaccine production, since the beginning of the pandemic, the situation was “pretty dire”.
He also urged Ministers not to rely on vaccines imported from USA.
