The amendments provoked criticism of a number of countries, particularly some members of the European Union, and the United States. Among the proposed changes, which were voted the Russians — the empowerment of the Parliament, the constitutional court, the prohibition of senior officials to have a residence permit in other countries, limiting the number of presidential terms, the priority of the Basic law over international agreements and strengthening the social commitments of the state.
