The President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro proposed to open the country’s borders with neighbouring States, despite the pandemic coronavirus. A related initiative, the politician said on Friday during the ceremony of inauguration of the new Minister of health.
"I believe that it is necessary to open borders, we will certainly discuss this with the Ministers. Why closed the border with Paraguay? There is a land border controlled by is not possible. Same with Uruguay", – said the head of state.
In his opinion, the decision itself and the failure to enforce it did not make sense.
In mid-March in connection with the epidemic of coronavirus in the South American continent, Brazil announced the closure of land across borders with neighbouring States. The exception was made only for people living in the border areas, as well as for the movement of goods between countries. At the end of the month was a complete ban on the entry of foreigners. The first of such restrictions will expire on April 19, while others continue to operate until the end of the month.
