Finance Minister Anton Siluanov has estimated the possibility of distributing the Russians of money for nothing. His words leads the newspaper “Vedomosti”.
According to the Minister, Russia could go on the distribution of “helicopter money”, if the ruble was the world’s reserve currency. “If we printed a reserve currency, it would be “helicopter money to throw”, to spend trillions of rubles. But the task is not to compete who will spend more, and to help those who primarily needs support,” — said the Minister.
Siluanov added that currently it is necessary to help the business in retaining employees and the citizens in the priorities of expenditure on food, housing, loans.
Previously head of the Bank of Russia Elvira Nabiullina explained why it is impossible to give the Russians money for nothing. “If you imagine that we as a Central Bank print the money and distribute them at a zero rate, where will this lead? I recall the 1990-ies. This will result in a “burst” of inflation, and people who receive these moneys, it will be difficult for them to buy something”, she said.
the Idea of handing out money to everyone in Russia was expressed by the group of economists, including Professor of Economics at the Paris School of political Sciences Sergei Guriev and Professor, University of Chicago Konstantin Sonin. According to the latter, a sensible course of action is to pay every citizen a lump sum, for example, in the amount of 10 thousand rubles in April-may and then by the same summer and autumn.
