Citing satellite images taken in the waters of the Syrian port of Tartus, the media reported that the Russian military allegedly sent to Syria marine mammals involved in intelligence gathering. Earlier, the Russian military was accused of using whales reconnaissance in the Arctic ocean. “MK” asked experts to evaluate this information.

As we found out “MK”, program for the use of marine mammals for military purposes existed in a number of armed forces around the world. However, studies have shown a number of nuances that do not allow you to turn the sea creatures into a good soldier.
Expert opinion shared with “MK” on condition of anonymity, a former employee of one of the Crimean dolphinariums, which in 1980-e years was engaged as an expert in the training of dolphins for the Ministry of defence. According to him, the main problem is that the dolphins are “not interested” to fight.
-as far As I know, the first attempts to use dolphins for military purposes was made before the Second world war. And sometimes the topic came back. In our study, which was initiated by the military, it became clear that dolphins are just not suited to perform the role of a soldier.
