Actions in the fight against corona should only be temporary and must ensure the values of the EU, the EU underlines the manager.

Several EU-countries to introduce far-reaching national efforts to reduce the spread of coronaviruses.

It is actions, which are necessary in a time of crisis, but are only allowed to be temporary – and certainly not to undermine democracy.

so says the EU Commission president, Ursula von der Leyen, in a statement on Tuesday.

– It is extremely important that the emergency measures at the expense of our fundamental values as set out in the treaties.

– Any action must be limited to what is necessary – and it may not last indefinitely. In addition, governments must ensure that such measures are subject to regular monitoring, she says.

the EU Commission will keep a close eye on and analyze the actions, which the EU countries take to reduce the spread of coronaviruses.

It is particularly Hungary, which will be kept an extra eye on. It says a spokesman for the EU Commission on Tuesday.

The Hungarian prime minister, Viktor Orbán, was on Monday passed a new law, which makes it possible for the government to lead the country without asking the parliament.

It may do, so long as the will, writes the news agency TT.

the Law also makes it possible for the government to extend the state of emergency, initially introduced in 11. march and had to apply in two weeks. The government can, in principle, extend the outside completion date.

But it is a problem if the member states take measures, which do not live up to EU values, says von der Leyen.

– We live in exceptional times, governments must have the necessary tools to act quickly and effectively in order to protect the health of our citizens.

– the EU-the Commission will collaborate closely monitor the application of measures in all member states. We need to work together to master this crisis. Along the way, we need to maintain our european values and human rights, she says.

commissioners will discuss the member states ‘ action against coronavirus at their weekly meeting Wednesday.
