BRUSSELS, 24 APR – news, Maria Knyazev. The EU and the UK will hold two more rounds of negotiations on future relations – and the weeks of 11 may and 1 June, and then in June we intend to assess the progress achieved, said the chief negotiator from the EU, Michel Barnier at a press conference.
the EU and Britain had agreed that “in June, will hold a conference at a high level to assess progress” in the negotiations on the future partnership.
“up To this point we have only two rounds of negotiations in the week of 11 may and during the week from 1 June. We need to use these rounds to achieve tangible progress in all fields,” he said.
however, Barnier noted that in the past this week negotiations will require progress to be achieved.
Britain left the EU on January 31 this year. Until the end of 2020, the country’s relations and Union a transitional period, when great Britain continue to apply EU rules, but it is not involved in the decision-making process in the Union. Such a transitional period, for example, gives you the opportunity to maintain trade relations in the same format. At the end of “transition” rules of the Union will cease to spread to Britain. To avoid disruptions and difficulties in the organization of relations between the country and the Union in various spheres – economic, social and political, their representatives should negotiate the terms of future partnership.
the Transition period may be extended, otherwise the country and the Union would need to agree for a very short period of time or transition to a new stage of their relationship risks becoming “hard”. However, Britain does not want to prolong the transition period.
