The DPRK as a result of strict quarantine measures prevented the penetration of the disease caused by a novel coronavirus (COVID-19), on its territory, making it almost the only country in the world, escaped the epidemic. This opinion in an interview with TASS was expressed by the Russian Ambassador to Pyongyang Alexander Matsegora.
"we Can say that North Korea has become almost the only country in the world, which at the moment escaped the epidemic, and while borders remain shut, the danger of penetration of the disease is not present, – the Ambassador noted. – This is a great achievement and a big plus".
the Russian diplomat noted that "linked to this is a huge challenge, which inevitably will face the Republic in the future". "it is Now clear that coronavirus isn’t going anywhere, we all have to learn to live with it, he explained. – Scientists say that, passing now through hardships related to illness, hospitalizations, suffering and death, mankind acquires immunity".
"If this is true, it will mean that the North Koreans will remain, possibly the only one in the world who, to cope with the extremely difficult task not to let the virus into your home, will not obtain collective immunity to the disease," said Matsegora.
According to the Ambassador, "sooner or later there will be a question of opening the border, the resumption of delegatory exchanges, business trips, tourism, study abroad, and so forth, at home in the DPRK should return those who do not have time to do that before the cancellation of flights". "What should we do? – asks he. – Save the isolation for an indefinite period, waiting for vaccines for immunization in the entire country? In the end to open borders, having previously studied the experience of other countries, accumulating medications, equipping hospital beds and prepared to go the way that the neighbors have already overcome?"
"we Sincerely hope that our Korean friends will find a decent answer to this difficult question", – concluded the Russian Ambassador to the DPRK.
Schools in the country
DPRK authorities decided since June 1, fully to resume limited due to pandemic coronavirus schools, to attend classes can students of all grades, Matsegora said.
"the DPRK Leadership took immediate, comprehensive and extremely effective measures that would prevent penetration of the disease, – said the Ambassador. – To date, the restrictions are gradually removed. Know, for example, that from June 1 in their classes will come back younger students, who since February had to do at home, unscheduled vacation students ended on may 1."
Thus, according to the diplomat, some measures remain in force, including the compulsory wearing of masks, a widespread disinfection, reqt on mass events. "the restrictions imposed on the outskirts of Pyongyang, remains fully closed for international passenger traffic of all border crossings", – said Matsegora.
