Chaz Roberts, a dedicated member of Urban Alchemy, has been actively building connections with the people seeking refuge at the Oasis. One visitor described Roberts as an “angel in disguise,” highlighting the positive impact he has had on the community.
Roberts emphasized the importance of ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, feels cared for and supported. He noted that individuals from all walks of life, whether residing in high-rise buildings or living on the streets, can experience feelings of depression, anxiety, or a desire for self-improvement.
Harriet Young, another team member at Urban Alchemy, shared that the Oasis offers more than just a shady spot to escape the heat. It provides a 24-hour sanctuary where individuals can unwind, gather their thoughts, and temporarily set aside the burden of carrying their belongings around.
In addition to the services provided by Urban Alchemy, local organizations like the Sow Family Foundation have joined forces to offer free meals and water to those utilizing the Oasis. This collaborative effort ensures that basic needs are met and that individuals can find respite in a welcoming environment.
