NRW Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) and his challenger Thomas Kutschaty from the SPD seem to have a similar sense of humor.
Both politicians joked about the correct folding of the ballot when they cast their votes in their respective home districts on Sunday. “But it’s difficult to fold so that nobody can see anything,” said Kuchaty when he came out of the voting booth in Essen with his ballot. The folding technique was also an issue for Prime Minister Wüst in Rhede. A dpa photo reporter reported that Wüst reacted with a laugh.
In the federal elections last autumn, the former CDU candidate for chancellor and former Prime Minister of North Rhine-Westphalia, Armin Laschet, did not fold his ballot correctly. Laschet’s crosses for the CDU could be seen at the photo session for throwing in the ballot paper. That had led to a debate about the validity of the ballot and a lot of malice for Laschet.
