Spooky Halloween Event: Panic at Paramount Theatre
The Paramount Theatre in Austin is gearing up for the Halloween season with their annual event, Panic at the Paramount. This two-week celebration of scary cinema features a lineup of horror classics, double bills, lost gems, and even a family-friendly film to get everyone in the Halloween spirit.
The event kicks off on October 15 with a Theatre Double Feature, starting at 7pm with the Italian horror film “Demons.” Directed by Lamberto Bava, this mind-bogglingly gory film will have the audience on the edge of their seats. Following “Demons” is “Popcorn,” a slasher-style remake of The Phantom of the Opera set in a film festival, directed by Mark Herrier.
On October 17, the Apartment Double Feature begins at 7pm with the iconic “Rosemary’s Baby,” a chilling tale of neighbors from Hell starring Mia Farrow. The evening continues with “Candyman,” a British-American horror film that delves into urban Gothic themes set in Chicago’s Cabrini-Green neighborhood.
The Fun Ones Marathon on October 19 features two double bills showcasing beloved horror franchises that took a turn towards humor and the bizarre. Starting at 2pm with “Halloween III: Season of the Witch,” followed by “The Return of the Living Dead,” and continuing at 7pm with “A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2,” directed by Tobe Hooper.
Families can join in on the Halloween fun on October 20 with a screening of “The Nightmare Before Christmas” at 3:30pm. Later in the evening, the Hyperreal Double Feature presents “Death Becomes Her,” a satirical take on plastic surgery culture starring Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep, followed by “Jawbreaker,” a dark comedy centered around high school homicide.
The event concludes on October 28 with the Rodriguez/Nicotero Double Feature, starting at 7pm with “From Dusk Till Dawn,” a vampire thriller directed by Robert Rodriguez and featuring practical effects by Greg Nicotero. The night will also include a mystery second feature, keeping audiences on the edge of their seats.
