The soccer World Cup in Qatar will probably have a real opening game after all – and this one day earlier than previously planned. As the British sports portal “The Athletic” reports, the World Cup will start on November 20 so that hosts Qatar can host the opening game.
So far, the official “opening game” between the hosts and Ecuador was planned for November 21, but the first World Cup game would have been the duel between Senegal and the Netherlands on the same day. England-Iran would also have been played before the official opening.
According to the AFP news agency, the world football association Fifa and Qatar themselves have approved the World Cup organizing committee’s request to bring the game forward. The final of the finals will be played at Lusail Iconic Stadium on December 18th. The Bundesliga goes into the World Cup break on November 13th.
