Silicone implant in the breast women have managed to change the trajectory of the bullet and saved its owner from death. Article describing the unusual case was published in the medical journal Plastic Surgery Case Studies.
the Incident occurred in the province of Ontario, Canada. 30-year-old woman was the victim of an unknown shooter — she was walking down the street, heard a gunshot and felt pain and heat in left chest. In shock she looked down and saw blood.
Witnesses called an ambulance, the victim was taken to a nearby trauma center in stable condition. The doctor examined her and found only a small bullet hole in the top of the left chest. Under the skin of the right breast of the patient, the doctors felt something like a bullet. The canadian took an x-ray, which confirmed suspicions of doctors. As it turned out, the bullet broke one rib of the patient and lodged in the right side wall of her chest.
computed tomography revealed a lung contusion, serious damage to the thorax was avoided.
In the end, the surgeons removed both the damaged implant and extracted the bullet .40 S&W caliber. Soon, the canadian recovered fully and went home.
Doctors have carefully studied a CT scan of the patient and concluded that if she didn’t have implants, then the bullet would have gone right through her chest wall and possibly hit her heart.
“on the Basis of the clinical trajectory of penetration of a bullet and radiological evaluation, the only source of deviation of the bullet is the left breast implant. This implant covers the heart and vnutrigrudne cavity and therefore, probably saved the woman’s life,” wrote the study authors.
