This emerges from a paper by the ministry that the “Bild” newspaper published.

1. Best case scenario

2. Moderate Scenario

3. Worst case scenario

According to the paper, the Ministry of Health considers scenario number two to be the most likely. Without additional measures, around 1,500 corona deaths per week can be expected.

In order to avoid as many deaths as possible, Lauterbach presented a seven-point plan for the fall last week.

1. Vaccination campaign

The federal government procures and stocks a wide range of vaccines, including vaccines that are adapted to the omicron variant. In this way, everyone should be able to be offered the best vaccine in the respective situation.

2. Test concept

Citizen tests will continue to be offered in the summer. However, Lauterbach had announced that it would move away from free citizen tests for everyone. In the future, only people with symptoms and a few other groups should be eligible for free tests.

3. Treatment concept

Effective drugs (e.g. Paxlovid) against Covid-19 should be used more frequently and more quickly. The Federal Government’s Expert Council is developing a treatment concept for this.

4. Protection of vulnerable groups

Care facilities should be obliged to appoint a hygiene officer. In addition, vaccination gaps are to be closed and medicines are to be used quickly.

5. Data Flow

The overview of beds occupied by COVID patients is to be significantly improved. To this end, hospitals are obliged to report the data to the RKI on a daily basis via existing structures (DEMIS).

6. Schools and day-care centers

A uniform hygiene concept is intended to provide better protection for children and young people in schools and day-care centres. The RKI supports the federal states in their work here.

7. Infection Protection Act

The aim is to reform the IfSG when it expires on September 23rd. The BMG is in discussion with the BMJ about this.

On Thursday, the federal and state health ministers will announce the results of the health ministers’ conference. In addition to the question of free citizen tests for everyone, it is still unclear to what extent the federal states will be more involved in financing the tests.

The federal and state health ministers have been meeting in the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt since Wednesday. In addition to the further Corona course, the conference should also be about accelerated digitization in the health sector.
