BYD is a well-known brand in Portugal, making a strong impact in Europe to solidify its position in the market. With several models already available, the Chinese electric car manufacturer is now offering the SEAL U EV and SEAL U DM-i in Portugal starting at 42,990 euros and 40,169 euros, respectively.
As a global leader in manufacturing new energy vehicles, BYD has gradually but consistently gained a foothold in the global market for electrified cars. With an expanding European catalog, the Chinese manufacturer now has two must-have models available in Portugal.
First, the SEAL U EV
Following the BYD SEAL and BYD DOLPHIN, the BYD SEAL U is the latest model in the Ocean series from BYD, designed according to the brand’s “Ocean Aesthetics” design language. This D-segment SUV is versatile and future-oriented. With its “U” anticipating “Utility,” this BYD model prioritizes space, comfort, and practicality.
The BYD SEAL U EV is offered in two equipment levels, each with its own propulsion configuration. Both versions are powered by a powerful permanent magnet synchronous electric motor driving the front wheels. With a maximum power of 160 kW and up to 330 Nm of torque, the SEAL U EV can reach a top speed of 175 km/h.
• BYD SEAL U EV Comfort version
This version features a 71.8 kWh battery and a range of up to 420 kilometers (WLTP combined cycle).
• BYD SEAL U EV Design version
This version has an 87 kWh battery and an even more reassuring range of up to 500 kilometers (WLTP combined cycle).
Another 100% electric model from BYD available in our country
This five-seater D-segment SUV has a length of 4785 mm, a width of 1890 mm, a height of 1668 mm, and a wheelbase of 2765 mm. Space is ensured with the option to fold the rear seat in parts (60:40), facilitating the expansion of the cargo volume from 552 to 1440 liters.
Like the BYD SEAL U DM-i, this BYD SEAL U EV is equipped with Blade Battery and a robust array of safety and driving assistance technologies. Furthermore, the SEAL U EV offers intelligent connectivity and infotainment, even remotely through the BYD app on your smartphone.
The BYD Intelligent Cockpit System is operated by the 12.8” or 15.6” electric rotating screen, depending on the version, with the choice of landscape or portrait screen format – while a variety of driver information is displayed on the 12.3” instrument panel LCD.
The BYD SEAL U comes standard with an onboard 11 kW three-phase AC charger and can achieve ultra-fast DC charging speeds of up to 140 kW. This means it only takes 27 to 28 minutes to charge the Blade Battery from 30% to 80% capacity.
Price and availability
The range of the BYD SEAL U EV version comes with six body colors and two interior color themes. The 100% electric BYD SEAL U will be offered with a manufacturer’s total warranty of 6 years/150,000 km, an 8-year/200,000 km warranty for at least 70% of the original battery capacity, and an 8-year/150,000 km warranty for the standard electric motor.
The new BYD SEAL U EV Comfort is available starting at 42,990 euros, while the BYD SEAL U EV Design is available for 45,790 euros.
The BYD SEAL U DM-i is also available in Portugal
This is BYD’s first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in Europe with the manufacturer’s Super DM (Dual Mode) technology. This technology represents a revolutionary evolution in intelligent PHEV technology. Exclusively developed by BYD, it offers benefits such as energy efficiency, low fuel consumption, driving performance, and comfort.
In the SEAL U DM-i, the “i” symbolizes “Intelligence,” incorporating intelligent and energy-efficient driving principles. BYD’s Super DM technology prioritizes electricity, with minimal dependence on fuel, making the vehicle more environmentally friendly, with higher energy efficiency and lower fuel consumption.
Portugal is receiving two equipment versions of the BYD SEAL U DM-i, both aimed at customers looking for an environmentally friendly vehicle without compromising range, practicality, and economic accessibility.
• BYD SEAL U DM-i Boost version
This version is equipped with a 1.5 L hybrid engine with front-wheel drive and 72 kW (97 hp) of power, working together with the high-capacity 145 kW (194 hp) electric motor. This version is equipped with the 18.3 kWh Blade Battery, just like the Design version.
The total power of the propulsion system for this version is 160 kW (215 hp) and the maximum torque is 300 Nm.
The vehicle in this version achieves an attractive combined fuel consumption of just 0.9 L/100 km, combined electric consumption is 21 kWh/km, and electric consumption during city driving is 14.5 kWh/100 km.
This Boost version, with front-wheel drive, offers an electric range of 80 kilometers, ensuring a cumulative range of 1080 kilometers (WLTP).
• BYD SEAL U DM-i Design version
This version features two high-power electric motors (150 kW/201 hp at the front and 120 kW/161 hp at the rear) and the efficient 18.3 kWh BYD Blade Battery, complemented by the internally developed 1.5L turbo four-cylinder gasoline engine, producing 96 kW (129 hp), to work together with the two electric motors.
The total maximum power of the system is 238 kW (319 hp) and the total maximum torque is 550 Nm. The BYD SEAL U DM-i Design has a four-wheel-drive configuration.
In terms of consumption, this version achieves 1.2 L/100 km, with a combined electric consumption of 23.5 kWh/km, and city driving electric consumption of 16.1 kWh/100 km.
Furthermore, the Design version, with four-wheel drive, has a 100% electric driving range of 70 kilometers (WLTP cycle), ensuring a total range of 870 kilometers (WLTP). Moreover, it guarantees acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.
BYD SEAL U DM-i: a car that will pique the interest of the Portuguese
The BYD SEAL U DM-i has two driving modes for all equipment levels: EV (100% electric) and HEV (hybrid electric). Additionally, drivers do not have to worry about electric range or charging location.
Moreover, the engine charges the battery (between 25% and 70%, adjustable), so electric driving is always available. The battery is also charged through regenerative technology.
Like all passenger vehicles from BYD sold in Europe, the BYD SEAL U DM-i comes standard with Blade Battery technology, cobalt-free, internally developed to optimize safety, durability, longevity, performance, and space utilization.
All equipment versions of the BYD SEAL U DM-i offer 11 kW three-phase AC charging and 18 kW DC continuous charging. With this, DC charging time (from 30% to 80%) takes only 35 minutes. Additionally, the BYD SEAL U DM-i’s battery supports the V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) function, allowing the car to be used as a portable power source for electric devices.
The five-seater D-segment SUV has a length of 4775 mm, a width of 1890 mm, a height of 1670 mm, and a wheelbase of 2765 mm. Furthermore, the rear seat can be partially folded (60:40), facilitating the expansion of the trunk capacity from 425 to 1440 liters.
The BYD Intelligent Cockpit System is operated by the 15.6” rotating screen – with the option to choose between landscape or portrait screen format – while a series of driver information is displayed on the 12.3” full instrument panel LCD.
As with all BYD models, the brand ensures high standards of passive and active safety, especially in terms of driver assistance.
Price and availability of the BYD SEAL U DM-i
