Researchers from Hong Kong University of science and technology (HKUST) announced the development of a tool that can provide a 90-day protection of surfaces from bacteria and coronaviruses. It is reported AsiaOne.
According to scientists, work on the tool, dubbed MAP-1, took ten years. It can be sprayed on surfaces which are often used by people, for example, buttons and handrails elevators.
HKUST Professor Joseph Kwan, one of the developers of the product said that formed after the spray coating contains millions of nanocapsule that contain disinfectants. Kwan argues that the remedy remains effective at destroying bacteria, viruses and spores, even after drying.
According to him, unlike diluted bleach and alcohol MAP-1 is additionally enhanced by temperature-sensitive polymers that release disinfectants if you touch them.
The researchers also say that the product is non-toxic and safe to the skin and the environment.
After clinical trials conducted this year in Hong Kong the hospital and the nursing home, the coating is approved for mass use. Next month it will be available in Hong Kong.
As reported by “the Rambler”, the scientists considered the main routes of transmission of the coronavirus droplets formed when sneezing and coughing, close contact with infected people and touching contaminated surfaces.
Scientists have warned that on different objects the virus can stay for a few days. Researchers from the University of Hong Kong found that the coronavirus within three hours disappears from printing products, maybe four to seven days to linger on banknotes, stainless steel or plastic, and a medical mask – for a week.
