MOSCOW, may 5 – RIA Novosti. A group of Dutch and German scientists at Utrecht University synthesized the experimental monoclonal antibody that can defeat COVID-19 in the laboratory, reported in the journal Nature Communications.
According to scientists, 47D11 focused on the protein spikes of the virus and does not allow him to enter the cell. It is noted that the new antibody has won not only virus SARS-CoV-2, but also related SARS-CoV. In principle it is similar to those proteins that are produced by immune cells.
In the course of the experiments, we used genetically modified mice. After positive results, the researchers decided to edit the antibody to create a suitable for a human version.
Yet the use of these antibodies in medicine is possible, development needs to undergo more tests.
