San Marcos Police Department is currently investigating threatening flyers that have been discovered in various locations across San Marcos, targeting supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris. According to SMPD Chief Stan Standridge, there have been at least five flyers reported since Friday, and the department is working to determine the extent of the distribution of these flyers throughout the city.

The flyers, which have been found on residents’ campaign signs, contain messages indicating that the individual is now part of a “national database” and threatens them with an IRS tax audit. Chief Standridge emphasized that it is a criminal offense in Texas to attempt to influence, coerce, or prevent a voter from exercising their right to vote. He stated that once the suspects responsible for distributing these flyers are identified, the case will be referred to the district attorney’s office for consideration of charges.

In response to these incidents, SMPD has reached out to the FBI and regional fusion centers such as the Southwest Texas Fusion Center and the Austin Regional Intelligence Center for assistance in the investigation. They are urging members of the public who come across these flyers not to remove them but to contact the department’s non-emergency number, 512-753-2108, so that an officer can investigate the scene and safely remove the flyer.

The discovery of these threatening flyers has raised concerns about potential voter intimidation and harassment targeting supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris in the San Marcos community. The SMPD is working diligently to address this issue and ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.

It is crucial for law enforcement and community members to work together to protect the democratic process and safeguard the rights of all voters, regardless of their political affiliations. By reporting any suspicious activity or materials, residents can help ensure a safe and fair election environment for everyone in San Marcos. Let’s stand together against voter intimidation and uphold the principles of democracy that are the foundation of our society.
