Police in Rome arrested a suspected member of the Islamic State (IS) terror group on Saturday. According to local media reports, the 37-year-old Egyptian has been active on the Internet as a “virtual fighter” for the past two years.

He had distributed large amounts of jihadist propaganda material, including tips on how to make explosive devices.

According to the information, the investigators classified the fact that the man was recently repeatedly in the Vatican’s tourist zone as particularly worrying. The authorities then decided to take him out of circulation as a precautionary measure by a special unit of the Carabinieri. Investigations into possible accomplices continued, it said.
