NECESSARY: Atlanta was forced to move under the cap by the NFL’s suspension of WR Calvin Ridley in 2022 as punishment for betting on NFL games last season. Gage was the No. 1 target for Matt Ryan last season and the Falcons could re-sign him. Matt Ryan was Matt Ryan’s No. 1 target while Ridley was ill for most of the season. Gage, who stepped in as the No. 2, is still available. Wide receiver joins cornerback, edge rusher and offensive tackle on a long list of offseason requirements. The Falcons have made the most of their cap space by restructuring Matt Ryan’s and Jake Matthews’ contracts. The team could still struggle to resign Patterson, despite the fact that they have released Dante Fowler (outside linebacker) and Matt Gono (offensive tackle). Fowler led the pass rush on a defense that ranked last with 18 sacks.
