It was at this fortress thirty years ago, Riccardo Muti opened the first of the Ravenna festival, founded in 1990 his wife, produced and directed by Cristina Muti Mazzavillani. This time the Maestro and his Youth orchestra Luigi Cherubini (Luigi Cherubini) will give a live concert at the opening of the festival, returning for the first time since March 9, when the country was closed to quarantine, live music in Italy.
a lively festival became possible after submission to the Minister of culture of Italy Dario francescini plan, which was supported by the music Association of Italy (Agis, Anfols, Atit, ItaliaFestival). The plan outlined the possibility of holding concerts at outdoor venues in accordance with the sanitary protocols for combating coronavirus and guarantees the safety of the public, artists and staff of festival. It was decided to hold a concert at Rocca Brancaleone, a Venetian castle of the XV century. The venue – under the open sky gives an opportunity to observe social distance of all the musicians and the audience, which, besides other things, provide masks and antiseptic gels. Rocca holds up to 250 spectators, and the orchestra of 62 musicians. This plan was approved, and now the Ravenna festival has become a model for other Italian theatres and festivals, closed since the beginning of the epidemic and are also willing to hold live concerts in the summer of 2020.
At the opening of the Muti will perform with the Youth orchestra Luigi Cherubini that he created in 2004 specifically to support young musicians of Italy. With this orchestra, the Maestro toured Italy and other countries of the world, including within the famous project of The Roads of Friendship (“friendship Road”), which it conducts together with the Ravenna festival in the troubled spots of the world, making there way from ancient Italian Ravenna and speaking half ended with Italian and local musicians. This year together with the orchestra Luigi Cherubini was supposed to play musicians from Syria. Yet because of the pandemic, the project was postponed.
meanwhile, at the opening of the festival the orchestra will perform Cherubini previously an orchestral work by Alexander Scriabin’s “Meditation” (1898), the premiere that he conducted Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, the enchanted harmonic language of this music score. On the same evening and will feature works by Mozart: Motet Exsultate, jubilate, room Et incarnatus est from Mass in C minor performed by soprano Rose Fealy and Symphony No. 41 “Jupiter”. It is assumed that the Cherubini orchestra, will perform at the Ravenna festival in five concerts. It is a conscious decision of the festival who wishes thus to support the young generation of musicians, the most severely affected in financial terms during a pandemic. That is why young musicians were the first who proposed engagements for the performance.
the First live public concert at the opening of the Ravenna festival should be an important emotional moment for all Italians, because music is a symbol of this country and an integral part of her life.
