With revenues of more than $400,000 accumulated during its first weekend in theaters, Testament, Denys Arcand’s 15th feature film, achieved the best start for a Quebec film since the reopening of cinemas.

Released in 77 theaters on October 5, Testament broke the record belonging to the feature film by filmmaker Louise Archambault and screenwriter Marie Viens, Le temps d’un été, which grossed more than $255,000 during its first weekend in theaters in July.

Remember that Testament features Rémy Girard in the role of a septuagenarian who is losing his bearings. He finds himself, reluctantly, involved in a conflict between the director of the retirement home located in the heritage building where he lives and woke activists demanding the destruction of a mural that would represent in an offensive manner Indigenous people receiving Jacques Cartier and his crew.
