“Stalag 372” – one of the largest of the German concentration camps, located in the North-West of the USSR during the great Patriotic war. According to the Fund “a true story”, a one-time number of its inhabitants reached 100 thousand people, and the death toll is more than 75 thousand people.
the Camp was situated on the Western outskirts of Pskov. Now it is the territory between the streets of Jubilee, General Margelov, Shestak and Major Dostavalova. During the time elapsed since the great Patriotic war, the territory of the concentration camp partly built up with houses.
In early March of this year, the Committee for the protection of cultural heritage received an application to the Director of Fund “Authentic history” and a member of the Public Council under the Committee of Yury Alekseeva on the inclusion of the “Stalag” in the unified state register of objects of cultural heritage (monuments of history and culture) of peoples of the Russian Federation. The Ministry supported the initiative of the historian. “Scientific-production center on protection and use of monuments of history and culture” performed the necessary work to determine the value of the property and prepared a report on the basis of which the territory of the concentration camp is included in the list of revealed objects of cultural heritage.
– Today is a great day, – commented Yuriy Alekseev. – The territory of “Stalag 372” becomes a memorable place and falls under the state protection with all additional terms and conditions. During the year, must be conducted by the state examination and the monument will be in the registry of the Ministry of culture.
On the further future the camp so far, but it is obvious that new residential development will not be here. Historians discuss options for memorialization of the object.
