On Friday (14), the IST/AIDS Coordination of the Municipal Health Department will bring the PrEP on the Street project to three regions of the city: central, east, and south.
With the help of a specialized team, the population will be able to undergo free rapid testing for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C, and start using pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention. There will also be distribution of prevention supplies, such as condoms and lubricating gel.
The PrEP on the Street project aims to expand access to HIV prevention, especially for the most vulnerable segments of the population. PrEP involves the continuous use of antiretroviral medications (in the form of one pill a day), so that if there is exposure to the virus, the person is already protected.

As HIV continues to be a significant public health issue, initiatives like PrEP on the Street play a crucial role in raising awareness and providing access to prevention methods. By offering free testing and medication, this project helps individuals make informed decisions about their sexual health and empowers them to take control of their well-being.

In addition to the services mentioned, the PrEP on the Street team will also provide counseling and education on safe sex practices, the importance of regular testing, and how to effectively use prevention tools like condoms and PrEP. These additional resources aim to equip the community with the knowledge and tools needed to protect themselves and others from HIV transmission.

Moreover, the locations chosen for the campaign, such as bus terminals, nightclubs, and cinemas, reflect a strategic approach to reaching a diverse audience. By meeting people where they are, the project ensures that individuals from different backgrounds and lifestyles have access to vital HIV prevention services.

Overall, the PrEP on the Street initiative serves as a reminder of the importance of proactive measures in combating HIV and promoting sexual health. Through community engagement and targeted outreach, this campaign strives to make a positive impact in reducing the spread of HIV and improving overall well-being in the population.
