According to media reports, those responsible at FC Bayern were caught off guard by the interview with their captain Manuel Neuer. The conversation with “SZ” and “The Athletic” should have financial consequences for the goalkeeper – and put even more strain on his relationship with coach Julian Nagelsmann.
The dismissal of close goalkeeper confidant Toni Tapalovic at the beginning of the year was absurd for Neuer. According to his own statements, the captain cannot understand the reasons for Tapalovic’s departure at all. According to “Bild”, the interview was not authorized by the club. This threatens Neuer with a draconian fine.
In the past, the Munich club management has reacted very allergic to unauthorized interviews of the players. Philipp Lahm was once punished with a record fine of more than 50,000 euros after an interview with the “SZ”, in which he also clearly dished out against those responsible.
In addition, Neuer’s relationship with coach Julian Nagelsmann is now considered badly damaged. “Spiegel” interpreted the interview as a “break with Nagelsmann”. According to “Bild” there could be “only one” of the two in the club in the future.
The paper is already speculating about a “romantic” return of the goalkeeper to Schalke 04 and states: “Neuer has lost his Bayern future.”
The day after the Neuer interview was published, the apparently heavily strained relationship between the keeper and Nagelsmann was commented on social media. Here are some excerpts.
