U.S. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo said that the United States will not remain in the contracts for the weapons if they would violate the Russian Federation.
Earlier, the US withdrew from the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate and shorter-range missiles and announced its intention of withdrawal from the Treaty on open skies, but between the United States and the Russian Federation remains fundamental to the start-3 Treaty on the reduction of strategic offensive arms.
"Russia is the only one who is responsible for these events and the continuing erosion of the architecture of arms control. We remain committed to effective arms control, which promotes the security of the United States, allies and partners, is verifiable and enforceable, and includes partners who have a responsible approach to their duties", – said in a statement Pompeo.
"But we can’t stay in agreements on arms control that other party is in breach and which are actively used to support and to undermine international peace and security," said Pompeo.
In the past, Russia denied the accusations of the USA in violation of international treaties.
