the Historical center of the capital of Belgium – Brussels – was the “area meetings”, where the priority of the traffic received pedestrians and cyclists. According to the authorities, this measure, which is introduced for three months, should facilitate compliance with the social distance between people and help to avoid mass congestions of citizens.
Now pedestrians can move not only on sidewalks but also on the roadway. The car must move at a speed not exceeding 20 kilometers per hour to respect the priority of pedestrians and the safety of cyclists. Appropriate signs already installed, RIA Novosti reported.
Pedestrians must also fulfill a number of requirements: not to intentionally create interference to motorists and obey the traffic signals. Also will have to pass trams. Cyclists can use the roadway, even if there are no special lanes.
Belgium, like many other European countries, has begun a gradual lifting of the isolation imposed in March because of the pandemic coronavirus. Monday it was allowed to open all non-food stores subject to compliance with security measures.
