This creates additional challenges for midwives. Maternity hospitals lack of specialists and poorly prepared for a pandemic.
In Germany, women prefer to give birth in maternity hospitals, perinatal centers and at home. The country has about 40 thousand midwives, and the number of births in the current year is projected at 750 thousand.
