After his difficult season with the Brooklyn Nets, Kyrie Irving is probably facing another club change in the NBA. The star player does not get any further in talks about a new contract – now a change in the summer seems to be possible.
Kyrie Irving’s vaccination status was one of the biggest headlines of the past season. The controversial Brooklyn Nets star decided not to get vaccinated and has had to live with the consequences of that decision.
Irving wasn’t allowed to play home games due to New York City’s vaccination requirements until they changed the requirement in March. Additionally, as per NBA regulation, Irving was not paid for the games he missed due to his refusal to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
The Nets went so far as to say they would bench Irving in all their other games, which they changed after a tough losing streak.
But even with Irving as a full-time player, the Nets were eliminated early in the season – more than that, they were even crushed by the Boston Celtics.
Irving’s failure to live up to his claims and being criticized for his anti-vax stance not only led to the media heavily criticizing the Star Point Guard, but also to his own team becoming increasingly uncertain about a possible one became a long-term commitment.
It is now reported that both sides are at an impasse over Irving’s future and that two teams have emerged as potential buyers – the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks.
NBA insider Shams Charania wrote: “Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets are currently at a standstill in talks about his future, multiple sources tell The Athletic. This clears the way for the seven-time NBA All-Star to compete on the open market.”
