The Minister of foreign Affairs of New Zealand Winston Peters stated that the authorities intend to revise relations with Hong Kong after the entry into force of the law on national security of the special administrative region of China, reports Radio New Zealand.
"the Government has instructed officials to review all aspects of the policy of New Zealand in respect of Hong Kong, in order to determine the appropriate nature of our future cooperation," – said the Minister.
According to him, the review would cover the "extradition treaties, export control of strategically important products and recommendations on the" special administrative region of the PRC.
The law on the protection of national security of Hong Kong, approved by the Parliament of China, entered into force on 30 June. The law rules related to the prevention, suppression and punishment committed in Hong Kong for four types of crimes, including separatist activities, attempts of Subversion of state power, terrorist activities, conspiracy with foreign States, or abroad, with the aim to compromise national security.
The bill on national security caused discontent of anti-government forces in Hong Kong and some Western officials who see it as a desire by Beijing to tighten control over the autonomy.
