Employees of the Russian station “Ice base “Mys Baranova” on the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago have recorded a new temperature record for the last seven years. The air warmed up to +17.8 degrees Celsius.
According to the state scientific center “Arctic and Antarctic research Institute”.
It specified that the maximum temperature recorded during the observation period from 6 to 12 August. The minimum temperature for this period amounted to minus 1.2 degrees Celsius, and the average is 2.7 degrees Celsius.
The previous record was recorded in the period from 30 July to 5 August. Then the thermometer rose to 17.1 degrees Celsius.
