The Golden State Warriors defeat the Boston Celtics in game five and are close to winning the NBA title. Superstar Stephen Curry experienced a comparatively weak evening, but teammate Andrew Wiggins played big.
The Golden State Warriors are just one win away from the NBA Finals title in the world’s top basketball league. Despite a weak evening by superstar Stephen Curry, the Warriors won a hard-earned 104:94 against the Boston Celtics around national player Daniel Theis in game five on Monday evening (local time). After the home win, they can now seal the seventh title in their history with a win on Friday morning (3:00 a.m. CEST) in Boston.
Unlike so often, the Warriors were immediately in the game and pulled away in the first quarter by up to 16 points. Hardly anything worked for the Celtics in the first half, none of the first eight throws for a three went in. After the break, however, the guests were in the game and took the lead for the first time at 58:55 when eight threes in a row found their way to the finish. However, a throw converted by Jordan Poole as the clock was running out put the Warriors back in the lead at the end of the third quarter. The game was tipped again and the hosts pulled away again in the final quarter.
Curry had a comparatively weak evening with only 32 percent hit throws and 16 points, but Andrew Wiggins played big and posted 26 points. Jayson Tatum was again the best pitcher for the Celtics, scoring 27 points.
In contrast to the first two matches of the final series in San Francisco, Theis was not used. The Celtics have been waiting for another championship since 2008. The Warriors are hoping for their seventh title in history and their first since 2018.
