NATO is going to help their members combat the coronavirus, but to deal with the containment of Russia, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“We see that Russia retains a military presence along NATO’s borders, including in the black sea region, increasing its military presence in Crimea, reinforces black sea fleet”, – transfers its words TASS.
Stoltenberg also said that Russia allegedly “continues to help” volunteers in the Donbass.
“We responded to the coronavirus pandemic, during a pandemic, and I expect that this will continue after the pandemic. Therefore, NATO intends to help their countries combat the coronavirus, but also to meet their key responsibilities for the security of the Alliance”, – said Stoltenberg.
According to him, the Alliance has increased its military presence in the Black sea region including land and sea presence in Romania. In addition, NATO is working closely with partners in the region – Ukraine and Georgia.
He asked NATO to help Russia in the fight against the coronavirus, which has helped to free Italy and the United States, Stoltenberg said that Moscow “had no requests for assistance”.
“And now I pay attention to how to coordinate support to the countries – members of NATO. The situation in Russia reminds us that this is a global crisis, a common challenge and we should respond to him together,” he continued.
Stoltenberg also said that NATO is using the Ukrainian chartered military transport aircraft for the transport of medical resources.
“NATO is using the Ukrainian-chartered transport aircraft (developed in the USSR in 80-ies of the last century, the aircraft An-124-100 “Ruslan”) for the provision of strategic transport. This aircraft with huge cargo capacity. We welcome cooperation with Ukraine in this sphere”, – said the Secretary General of the Alliance.
He did not specify what kind of practical assistance, NATO ready to assist Ukraine, but said that the possibility “submission of the extended partnership.”
Last week it was reported that ships from Italy, Canada, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey from Wednesday to April 10 in Poti held a “contactless exercises” with two vessels of the Georgian border police.
