Russia is protected from U.S. attack over the North pole with modern air defense. However, due increasing NATO presence in the region the grouping of forces and means should increase, says chief editor of “national defense” Igor Korotchenko. He said this in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to military experts, Russia’s Northern fleet equipped with anti-aircraft missile systems s-400 and upgraded s-300. They are deployed to Tiksi, at Novaya Zemlya and other Arctic territories. In addition, on the Kola Peninsula deployed system “tor-М2ДТ”, which recently arming the Northern fleet.
Also on arms of Russia are advanced systems in the field of radar. For example, stations “Nebo-M”, which is capable of detecting air targets at a distance of several hundred kilometers, and also indicate their purpose.
Korotchenko explained that Moscow’s plans for Arctic development and Northern sea route does not suit Washington. Therefore, the United States will improve the scheme of the air war, and Russia will have to boost protection.
Previously, the military expert Vladislav Shurygin said it was the best way to strike at Russia from the USA is the Arctic. He recalled that Washington over 70 years of work for the USSR over the North pole.
