In the coming winter in Moscow, precipitation may fall by almost a quarter more than normal. This was reported by forecasters of the weather center “pHobos”.
According to meteorologists, the height of snowdrifts this summer will significantly exceed the average values, and a snowy winter will also come to other cities of Russia. In particular, an abnormal amount of snow is expected in Southern Russia, in the upper reaches of the Ob, Yenisei, Baikal region, as well as in the north of the Far East. In the lower reaches of the Volga, the Prikolymye and in the south of Siberia, the height of snowdrifts may even be 1.5-2 times higher than long-term values.
In addition, a blizzard has already hit the Far East, and at the beginning of last week snow fell in the Southern Urals. Blizzards also swept across Bashkiria and the Orenburg region.
Such an earlier manifestation of winter may be triggered by a pause in global warming in the Arctic.
“This year there was almost a million square kilometers more ice in the Arctic Ocean than in 2020. The last time such a significant malfunction of the heat engine destroying the polar cap of the planet was observed only once – 6-7 years ago,” Phobos reported.
At the same time, forecasters note that it is impossible to talk about an unambiguous slowdown in global warming, but the preservation of ice massifs in the Arctic will definitely have a significant impact on the weather of the Northern Hemisphere in the coming winter.
