Nikolai Gubenko was born in Odessa catacombs in 1941. When the boy was just a year old, his mother was hanged for refusing to cooperate with the German occupiers. He spent his childhood in the orphanage, where few people believed in acting talent Gubenko, but he in spite of everything managed to come to VGIK.
